6th Avenue Business District, Tacoma

The Right Location for your Business

The 6th Avenue Business District, one of Tacoma’s premier business, shopping, and entertainment destinations, is located primarily along Sixth Avenue between Sprague and Stevens Streets. The district “core” between State and Alder Streets, is a mixed use center, with building heights of 65 feet allowed on the Ave. Architecture is a charming blend of old and new, and fits in with the eclectic nature of the district.

There is a daily traffic count of 18,000 vehicles on 6th Avenue, with up to 30,000 vehicles at main intersections. Pierce Transit’s # 1 Bus route, running from University Place to Downtown Tacoma, carried 1,000,000 passengers down 6th Avenue last year. The 6th Avenue Farmer’s Market operates on Tuesday evenings, June through September, and brought in 25,000 shoppers last year.

Sixth Avenue separates two major residential neighborhoods: the Northend Neighborhood to the north, and the Central Neighborhood to the south. These residential neighborhoods are filled with people who moved here because of the unique and walk-able core that 6th Avenue offers.

There is an active 6th Avenue merchants association which follows the nationally proven Main Street model. This four point approach engages Sixth Avenue volunteers through four areas of focus. The Promotion Committee organizes events and seasonal promotions, such as “Art on the Ave”, a one day summer event which attracts an average 10,000 people. The Association also maintains liaisons with both neighborhood councils and local schools, and involves property owners in Landlord/Tenant meetings throughout its Economic Restructuring Component. The Design Committee focuses on District appearance, cleanliness, and physical improvements, such as the numerous Sixth Avenue art installations . The Organizational component manages fundraising events, membership relations, a monthly newsletter, and member meetings.

6th Avenue is an ideal destination for your visitors.
